CHAMOMILE TALLOW: Soothing Comfort for Irritated Skin

Chamomile tallow holds a special place in our Simply Made collection because it was one of the first formulas we concentrated on.
Our granddaughter was struggling with eczema and extremely sensitive, easily irritated skin. Her experience led us to focus closely on creating a simple, soothing and deeply moisturizing formula for skin that needed more than ordinary daily moisture.
That early focus grew into our Chamomile collection, which now includes:
Chamomile Soothing Whipped Tallow Lotion
Chamomile Soothing Intensive Balm Stick
Chamomile Tallow Soap with Colloidal Oatmeal
Each product serves a different purpose, but they were thoughtfully created to work together as a complete routine providing soothing comfort for irritated skin.
Who Is Chamomile Tallow For?
Chamomile is the formula we recommend when customers tell us their skin feels:
Extremely dry
Rough or flaky
Tight and uncomfortable
Easily irritated
Difficult to keep moisturized
Cracked from excessive dryness
Sensitive to heavily fragranced products
Customers often come to us because they or someone in their family experiences eczema, psoriasis or dermatitis. Those are medical conditions, and we do not present our Chamomile products as treatments or cures for them.
What we can provide is a thoughtfully created skincare routine intended to cleanse, moisturize and comfort the dryness, roughness, flaking and irritated feeling that may accompany many different skin concerns.
The History of Chamomile
Chamomile has been valued for centuries in traditional European and Mediterranean preparations.
The name comes from Greek words commonly interpreted as “ground apple,” a reference to the plant’s soft, apple-like aroma.
The small, daisy-like flowers have traditionally been prepared in teas, baths, compresses, oils and topical preparations. Chamomile became especially well known for its gentle nature and its association with calmness and comfort.
Modern researchers continue studying its naturally occurring compounds, including:
Apigenin
Bisabolol
Chamazulene
Flavonoids
Terpenoid compounds
Different chamomile species, extracts and essential oils contain different amounts of these compounds. Research involving one particular preparation does not mean every Chamomile product will produce the same results.
We chose chamomile because its long history in gentle skincare fits the purpose of this collection: providing soothing comfort for dry, irritated and easily stressed skin.
Why We Pair Chamomile With Lavender
Lavender also has a long history in bathing, fragrance and traditional topical preparations.
Its familiar floral-herbal aroma blends naturally with chamomile and softens the overall scent.
Together, they create a light, clean and comforting aroma without added artificial fragrance.
Lavender is not included simply to make the products smell good. Its gentle botanical profile complements chamomile and fits the soothing focus of the collection.
Why Tallow Is the Foundation
Grass-fed tallow is the foundation of our Chamomile lotion and intensive balm.
Tallow has been used for generations in soaps, salves and traditional skincare preparations. It is naturally rich in fatty acids, including oleic, palmitic and stearic acids, which give it its conditioning texture.
Tallow functions as an emollient, helping fill the spaces between dry surface skin cells so the skin feels softer, smoother and more flexible. It also helps slow the loss of moisture from the skin’s surface.
This makes it especially useful when skin has become so dry that it feels tight, rough or uncomfortable. Tallow gives the Chamomile collection the richness and staying power needed for skin that requires more than a thin, lightweight moisturizer.
Three Products With Three Different Purposes
The lotion, balm and soap are not identical formulas placed in different containers.
The whipped lotion spreads easily over larger areas and is intended for continued daily moisture and maintenance.
The intensive balm stick is richer, firmer and more concentrated. It stays in place over smaller areas that are extremely dry, rough or cracked-looking.
The tallow soap provides a creamy cleansing step and includes colloidal oatmeal to complement the follow-up lotion and balm.
Chamomile Soothing Whipped Tallow Lotion
Our Chamomile Soothing Whipped Tallow Lotion is available in 1 oz and 4 oz containers.
It contains:
Grass-fed tallow
Shea butter
Coconut oil
Jojoba oil
Manuka honey
Chamomile essential oil
Lavender essential oil
This is a rich whipped lotion created for regular use on areas needing continued moisture and comfort.
Shea Butter
Shea butter comes from the kernels of the shea tree, which is native to Africa. It has a long history of traditional use for conditioning skin exposed to dryness and harsh environmental conditions.
It is naturally rich in fatty acids, particularly oleic and stearic acids. In our lotion, shea butter adds richness, softens rough-feeling skin and helps it feel more supple.
It also gives Chamomile more body than one of our lighter tallow-and-carrier-oil formulas.
Coconut Oil
Coconut oil is pressed from the coconut kernel and has been traditionally used for hair and skin throughout tropical regions.
Its naturally occurring fatty acids help condition the skin and give the lotion a smooth, melting quality. It works with the tallow and shea butter to soften rough patches and provide lasting moisture.
Because coconut oil can feel richer than some carrier oils, Chamomile is best suited to skin needing deeper moisture rather than someone seeking our lightest facial formula.
Jojoba Oil
Although commonly called an oil, jojoba is technically a liquid wax produced from the seeds of the jojoba shrub, a plant native to dry regions of the southwestern United States and northern Mexico.
Jojoba has a lightweight, silky feel. In the Chamomile lotion, it balances the heavier tallow, shea butter and coconut oil, improving spreadability and helping the finished formula absorb comfortably.
Manuka Honey
Manuka honey is produced primarily in New Zealand and Australia by bees that gather nectar from the Manuka plant.
Honey is a natural humectant, meaning it attracts and holds moisture. While the tallow, shea butter and coconut oil soften and condition the skin, Manuka honey helps support moisture retention.
This is particularly important for skin that quickly returns to feeling dry or tight after an ordinary lotion has been applied.
Manuka honey also contains naturally occurring antioxidant compounds and continues to be studied for its unique botanical properties. In our formula, it is included for its moisture-attracting and skin-conditioning qualities.
Chamomile and Lavender Essential Oils
Chamomile essential oil provides the central botanical focus, while lavender adds a softly floral note and balances chamomile’s herbal aroma.
The finished scent is soft, clean and lightly herbal rather than sweet or heavily perfumed.
How to Use the Whipped Lotion
The whipped lotion is the best choice for daily use over larger areas, including the hands, arms, legs, elbows, knees and feet.
Begin with a small amount and massage it into clean skin. Applying it after bathing or handwashing—once the skin has been gently patted dry—helps maintain a soft, conditioned feel.
Because the whipped lotion contains no added waxes, it may soften or melt when exposed to high temperatures. This can change its whipped texture but does not change the quality of the ingredients.
Chamomile “Soothing” Intensive Balm Stick
Our 2 oz Chamomile Soothing Intensive Balm Stick is the most concentrated product in the collection.
It contains:
Grass-fed tallow
Mango butter
Shea butter
Beeswax
Castor oil
Coconut oil
Arrowroot powder
Colloidal oatmeal
Chamomile essential oil
Lavender essential oil
The balm was created for smaller areas requiring richer, more concentrated moisture.
Mango Butter
Mango butter is made from the kernel inside the mango seed.
It helps soften rough-feeling skin while giving the stick firmness and structure. It also contributes to the balm’s smooth glide and makes it more heat-stable than the whipped lotion.
Mango butter works with shea butter to create a balm that is solid in the container but begins softening when it touches warm skin.
Shea Butter
In the intensive balm, shea butter adds richness and helps the product melt smoothly into small creases and rough areas.
The combination of mango butter and shea butter gives the stick a buttery application while still allowing it to remain firm enough for direct use.
Beeswax
Beeswax is produced by honeybees to build the honeycomb and has been used for generations in salves, balms and protective skincare preparations.
In our balm, it:
Holds the solid stick together
Helps the product glide smoothly
Keeps the balm where it is applied
Forms a protective layer over dry skin
Helps slow surface moisture loss
Improves heat stability
Beeswax gives the balm more staying power than the whipped lotion, making it especially useful for stubborn dry spots.
Castor Oil
Castor oil is pressed from the seeds of the castor plant. It is thicker than many carrier oils, which makes it particularly useful in a solid balm.
It conditions rough-feeling skin, improves glide and helps the balm spread into small creases. Its rich consistency balances the waxes and butters without making the stick too hard.
Coconut Oil
Coconut oil helps the solid balm begin melting as it touches the warmth of the skin.
It improves spreadability, allowing the balm to move over rough areas without excessive pulling or dragging.
Arrowroot Powder
Arrowroot powder is a fine starch obtained from tropical plants.
It does not provide the balm’s primary moisture. Instead, it improves the finished texture by balancing the richness of the oils and butters and reducing an excessively oily after-feel.
Colloidal Oatmeal
Colloidal oatmeal is made by grinding whole oat kernels into an extremely fine powder so the oat particles can disperse throughout a properly formulated product.
Oats contain naturally occurring:
Beta-glucans
Lipids
Proteins
Avenanthramides
Antioxidant compounds
Researchers have studied colloidal-oatmeal preparations for their relationship to moisturization, skin-barrier support and improvements in the appearance and feel of dryness, roughness, scaling and irritation.
In our balm, colloidal oatmeal complements the tallow, butters and beeswax by helping dry, irritated-feeling skin feel softer, calmer and more comfortable.
We include colloidal oatmeal for its recognized cosmetic and skin-conditioning qualities. Its presence does not mean the balm is presented as a medical treatment.
Why the Balm Works Well for Cracked-Looking Skin
When skin becomes extremely dry, its surface can grow rough and develop small cracks and creases.
The intensive balm’s solid formula allows the tallow, butters, beeswax and conditioning oils to remain over those areas longer than a lighter lotion. Its twist-up container also makes it easy to apply around dry fingertips, knuckles, heels, nails and other small areas needing concentrated moisture.
The balm should be used on dry, intact skin and around superficial cracks—not inside an open, bleeding or infected wound.
A sore or wound that is not healing should be evaluated by a qualified healthcare professional.
A More Heat-Stable, TSA-Friendly Option
Mango butter, shea butter and beeswax give the balm a firmer structure than the whipped lotion.
That makes it more heat-stable, although any natural balm may soften if left in an extremely hot vehicle.
Its solid twist-up format is mess-free, easy to apply and convenient for a purse, carry-on or suitcase. Because it is a solid stick, there is no loose cream to spill during travel.
Chamomile Tallow Soap With Colloidal Oatmeal
Our Chamomile Tallow Soap is made with a tallow-and-apricot-kernel-oil base and contains colloidal oatmeal.
Tallow creates a firm, long-lasting bar with a rich, creamy lather.
Apricot kernel oil is pressed from the kernels found inside apricot pits. It contains naturally occurring oleic acid, linoleic acid and vitamin E compounds known as tocopherols.
It gives the soap a lighter, conditioning quality that balances the firmness of the tallow and helps create a smooth, creamy lather.
Colloidal oatmeal gives the soap an additional soothing and conditioning quality, making it an appealing cleansing option for customers with dry or easily irritated skin.
The soap begins the routine by cleansing. The whipped lotion then provides daily moisture, while the intensive balm targets the driest areas.
How to Use the Complete Chamomile Routine
Step One: Cleanse
Use the Chamomile Tallow Soap with warm—not excessively hot—water. Work it into a creamy lather, cleanse gently and rinse thoroughly.
Avoid aggressive scrubbing, which can make irritated skin feel more uncomfortable. Pat the skin dry rather than rubbing it.
Step Two: Moisturize
Apply the Chamomile Whipped Tallow Lotion over larger areas to provide continued daily moisture and maintenance.
Step Three: Target
Apply the Chamomile Intensive Balm Stick to smaller, stubborn areas needing a richer protective layer.

Is Chamomile Only for Children?
No.
Our granddaughter’s eczema was the reason we gave this formula so much early attention, but Chamomile can be used by adults as well.
Because every person’s skin is different, we recommend patch-testing a small area before broader use, especially for children or anyone with highly reactive skin. Discontinue use if irritation occurs.
Why Chamomile Will Always Be Special to Us
Chamomile was one of the first formulas we concentrated on as we developed our Simply Made collection.
Our granddaughter’s experience with eczema was the reason we gave this formula so much early attention. We wanted a simple, soothing and deeply moisturizing option for her extremely sensitive and easily irritated skin.
That personal connection is why Chamomile remains such an important part of the 5T Farm Simply Made collection today.
The soap gently begins the routine. The whipped lotion supports continued daily moisture. The intensive balm provides concentrated comfort for the driest areas.
Soft. Soothing. Comforting.
